RICK FORD ≈ Lyrics

Endless Trail
Rick Ford

Driving down from Birmingham I had the strangest dream
Driving down from Birmingham I had the strangest dream
I saw a band of riders splashing ‘cross a stream
And at their head a woman rode,
With hair like golden twine
As the wind tugged at her coat
I caught a flash of snow white thigh

Her hair it smelled of cinnamon, her breath like chilled white wine
Her hair it smelled of cinnamon, her breath like chilled white wine
I determined then and there to make that woman mine
She lifted up a jug of wine
And handed me a joint
She said ‘There’s no need to be nervous;’
I said ‘You’ve made your point,’

‘We ride through space and time,’ she said, ‘eternity’s our home;
Come with us on our endless trail, as through the skies we roam

I scrambled up beside her; couldn’t see I had a choice
I scrambled up beside her; couldn’t see I had a choice
And I’d been captivated by the promise in her voice
‘Good’ she said, ‘now hold on tight
And put your arms around my waist
You’ll pretty soon get used to it,’
I said ‘I’d hang on anyway!’

Caught sight of Robert Johnson but I didn’t go too near
Caught sight of Robert Johnson but I didn’t go too near
He was teaching Jimi how to play I didn’t want to interfere
‘How far to the crossroads man,’
I called to him in jest
He smiled at me sardonically
And said a long way yet

BREAK

Saw Jack Kerouac and Shakespeare drinking beer down at the Globe
Saw Jack Kerouac and Shakespeare drinking beer down at the Globe
Will turned to Jack and said ‘I hear you’ve been on the road’
‘That’s a great name for a book,’ said Jack
‘I guess all’s well that ends well’
Will looked back at Jack
Said ‘I’ve got a good idea myself.’

‘We ride through space and time, eternity’s our home;
Come with us on our endless trail, as through the skies we roam
As through the skies we roam.’
